Do You Want macOS to Open Source License?

A recent analysis pointed out that now that Apple has no extra energy to ensure the regularly updated of Mac, so they can authorize the macOS to develop for other companies. Incidentally, last week Apple has released a Darwin open source components, which includes major part of macOS kernel, Linux BSD partition and some of the other Drivers. Therefore, some people have thought this was prelude before Apple opening source license.

Unfortunately, this was not. Because provides the Darwin open source components is something Apple has been doing for16 years. Even though Apple has offered the entire macOS Sierra, it is little possibility of developers in the make an issue of it. Because of this and open source is not the same thing.

What is Apple Open Source License?

So what’s the meaning of Apple open source? Though Apple had said it would increase the intensity of open source, but the provision of Darwin open source code is not as the fact as some might imagine. macOS is a system which develops based on UNIX, this is also one of reasons why it is such formidable regarding to exploiter. It doesn’t mean Apple all opening the entire macOS Sierra to the outside world.

It has been said, it's just the kernel and other core technology, and except this, there are lots of other cool stuff, which is why Mac is a Mac, which is Apple's proprietary, not in a hurry to open-source code, will not be shared with outside. Here, we would like to note that it is quite important of these codes, only if they are exist does they make a complete operating system.

Who Will Use It?

It doesn’t matter if Apple really opens the entire macOS to the outside world.

After all, who do you think will use it? It is Microsoft? They will get in on the act in macOS but leaving the well-developed Windows? Probably other large PC manufacturers don't want to participate in it, either. Maybe there will be macOS copy existing.

But the copy can’t be match for Apple official legal copy. The companies have high reputations through the world won’t accept the fake one, and there is no company who wants to copy macOS, because they don’t have Apple's ecosystem. Software business isn't as easy as many people think, on the contrary, it is the complex aggregation of hardware, software, and third-party integration.

This is why the world's largest open source technology vendors Red Hat can sell free, easy to replicate the Linux operating system, make a few dozen million every year, which let competitors use their code, but not build an ecosystem which belongs to themselves on the basis of thousands of independent software and hardware vendors.

macOS is the Same Reason.

On other hand, is there any necessity that Apple must open source? It must need a lot of documents, not to mention the code, as well as the maintenance of marketing will have to devote their time and resources, if you really want to succeed in an open source project. Moreover, Apple does not want to start with those people who have a smattering of their code, so they will not consider the macOS the open source licensing, either.

In a word, Apple does not need macOS open source, so does in the point of uses.
